Summary

'Explosive and engaging' - Booklist

A ridiculous scheme to earn cold, hard cash...

PC Hamish Macbeth cannot help but admire the Highlanders' ingenuity during the Great Recession; in hard times, they must attract travelers to their sleepy towns, and the quaint village of Braikie has devised a novel solution. It does not have much to offer besides Buchan's Wood, which the local tourist board director has renamed 'The Fairy Glen' and had brochures printed with a picture of a kingfisher flying out of a lake.

A kingfisher with a noose around its neck is discovered hanging from a branch in the forests just as the town's fortunes are beginning to improve. As a wave of vandalism threatens to destroy Braikie forever, Hamish is compelled to intervene, and his investigation rapidly shifts from bird cruelty to murder.

Applause for the Hamish Macbeth series by M. C. Beaton:

Once again, M. C. Beaton has constructed a delightful blend of mystery and romance that will keep her readers turning pages. Publication Weekly

It is always a delight to visit Loch Dubh again. - New York Times Review of Books
